- What U Doin: trying to get some snooze
Im so tired and this time I know whats the culprit. I have been travelling to the city for 3 nights in the last 4 days and surely not getting enough sleep. Friday was for the soft opening and private rooftop party at Hudson Terrace before heading to The Park for a friend's bday. I didn't stay long - actually left at 1 AM but I ended up driving that night since my friend car was brought to the shop. Anyway, I didn't get back till about 2:30 in the morning and had to get to bed but since its the weekend, I was already awake by 8. Did my usual stuff during the weekend.
Then off to the city again for a party. But this time, I took public transportation. I was basically asleep almost the entire trip since I took the longer route bus. I would say I got about a good 40 minutes of nap. Once I got to the city, I walked towards Volstead located at 54th street. I got there and most of the party people were there already. We basically dance and partied the night away till about 4 in the morning. Afterwards, some of us decided to grab something to eat so we headed to Joe's Pizza. Then we drove around the city for awhile since we had some guest from LA. We showed them around until about 6 in the morning. So I didn't get home till 7:30 in the morning. And spent 2 1/2 hours sleeping before getting up again.
Then last night, I headed back to the city for the opening of Klaus Moje and Object Factory exhibit at Museum of Arts and Design. I got in early for parking purpose and decided to head to Borders at Time Warner Building to check out some books. Ricki Lake was there for a book signing. Ricki Lake was a daytime talk show host To find out more, click here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ricki_Lake). So I listened what her book was all about before heading to MAD.
Klaus Moje is a German artist who specializes in glass art. And its not like those being blown and shape in weird way - its more of using glass within glass to create intricate patterns that - from afar - looks like painting but once you take a closer look, you will see that its glass within glass. It sure was an amazing exhibit and if you are into patterns and glass, you will definitely love this exhibit. I especially love the vases and the rounded vessels that he created and there is even a video that shows you how he creates this magnificent work of arts.
Object Factory - the other main exhibit - is basically collaborating everyday materials to create various form of ceramics from kitchen appliances to digital clock. Imagine china plates that produces a scene of old China. Or how about dinner set thats only 3/4's whole. There was even an exhibit where the artist sand blasted pieces of China to create modern day marvels against the usual backdrop of China ware. Its not as enlighten as Klaus Moje exhibit but it still worth it to take a look.
Other exhibits that are currently in MAD are Totally Rad by guest curator Karim Rashad which are mostly industrial form of art; Elegant Armor which explores the contemporary jewelry; and last but not the least, MAD's own permanent collection called - what else - Permanently MAD, which are compose mostly of paintings and sculptures.
This was my second private preview reception and it sure hasn't disappoint.
Alrighty, I gotta get some sleep.
