Pheww... its hot outside and I'm loving it!!!
The weekend was just gorgeous. The temperature was above 80s and I truly love it. I decided to spent the day in the city on saturday. I got to the city about 10am (took the bus - good choice) and walk towards MoMa - surely subway would be quicker but its gorgeous. I haven't been to MoMa for awhile and I was due for a visit. The city sure was bustling - tourist packed the place while cars and trucks jostling for position. I got to MoMa and surely enough was packed, luckily I have my membership card and easily got in. I usually start from the top so I headed up the escalator and they have Alphabets by Leon Ferrari and Mira Schendel. It was a very interesting exhibit creating their art with alphabets. Most were not in English (I would guess either Italian or Spanish) so it was a bit hard to read the art work but still an truly amazing exhibit. They share exhibit space with Martin Kippenberger's The problem perspective. He is a German artist who goes overboard with his art. Not a dull moment there. Anyway, it sure was worth. Of course, I went down each floor while admiring again the works of Picasso, Dali, wright and Oldenburg. I could have easily spend my entire day here. After I got back down to the lobby, I decided to relax a bit in the MoMa garden. I still remember the last time I came here, it was still under construction. The garden was packed but luckily I found a vacant seat. I sat down under a tree and relax and admire the scenery with water fountains and a cool breeze.
After that break, I went to Whitney Museum of Art which I havent been to as well for awhile. Oh and yes, I walked from 53rd to 77th Street. It sure was a long walk but with everyone walking in the city, who would have notice? I pass by Central Park and it looks like a mob was there - people where just enjoying the day - ladies in their sundresses, gents in there khaki shorts. Anyway, I got to Whitney and they had Jenny Holzer's Protect Protect. I was supposed to see this exhibit like 3 weeks ago but was postponed. Luckily I went before it ends, interesting exhibit with a touch subject. She used a lot of electronic boards as her art work and Iraq prisoners as the subject. She also had bone fragments as well as documents that were blown up detailing the use of inhumanely means to force prisoners to confess. It sure was eye popping.
After Whitney, I headed to Guggenheim on 88th street but most of the exhibit floor was closed due to the installation of their next exhibit. So I didn't spend a lot of time in the museum. I got out and headed to Central Park.
The park was gorgeous and packed! Everyone was either jogging or walking around the pond. Then I got to the main grounds and it was mob with sunbathers, guys playing baseball or ultimate frisbee. Its like going to the beach without the sand and ocean. I found a nice spot near one of the ponds - sat down and start reading a book that I had for awhile but forgot to read it (Insomnia by SK). It sure was a nice break especially for my feet after all the walking that I have been doing. After reading 3 chapters, I continued walking around the park till I got to the West Side and start walking back to the bus station, so thats from 88st all the way down to 41st. Once I got to the bus, I just plucked down and in a matter of seconds, I was asleep, the last thing I remember was going through the tunnel.
Sunday was spent mostly outdoors watching a local baseball game. Sunday was wickedly hot but there was a cool breeze so it was all good. I was underneath the sun for almost 3 hours. So today Im truly baked and its not even summer yet. This week is suppose to hover around 70 - 80 with possible rain during the weekend. I guess we are skipping spring afterall. hehe.
